Like me, if you’re British, you may have got into the pattern of thinking that there’s something unusually unusual – perhaps dangerously so – about this winter’s rainy weather.
Maybe it’s down to climate change, and our society is about to sink beneath the waves like a latter-day Atlantis.
Or maybe we just live in the UK, where it rains all the damn time and always has. Ask Google if there’s any prospect of the rain stopping, and you find it’s not a new question.
Perhaps I should just be thankful that a) my house isn’t prone to flooding like those poor sods on the flats, and b) it hasn’t managed to turn into very successful snow yet (though I’ve no doubt it’ll keep trying well into June).
